Smart Classrooms for Government Schools – A Step Towards Digital Learning

To improve the quality of education and create an engaging learning environment, Integrated Development Initiatives and Alternatives Foundation (INDIA NGO) submitted a proposal to LEGGET & PLATT for establishing Smart Classrooms in two Government Higher Secondary Schools at Mogappair East, Chennai. The initiative was conceived to bridge the digital divide by introducing technology-enabled teaching and learning in government schools.

The intervention included the installation of smart boards with audiovisual facilities, classroom furniture, cupboards, safety gates, electrical fittings, lighting, and fans to create safe, comfortable, and interactive classrooms. These facilities will enable teachers to adopt modern teaching methods while making learning more interesting and effective for students.

The project directly benefitted to 890 girl students by improving classroom participation, increasing attendance, strengthening conceptual understanding, and enhancing overall academic performance. It also contributes to creating an inclusive learning environment where children from economically disadvantaged families can access quality digital education.

Aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), the initiative reflects the shared commitment of LEGGET & PLATT and INDIA NGO towards empowering children through better educational infrastructure and ensuring equal learning opportunities for all.
