Activities in association with Greater Chennai Corporation with the support of Hyundai Glovis

We Run a Special Shelter for women in Government Stanley Medical College Hospital, Chennai, jointly with Greater Chennai Corporation since 2016-17.

The attendees of inpatients in the hospital are not permitted to stay inside the hospital wards during night hours. They stay on pavements and other areas of the hospital during the night in unsafe situations.

Hence the Greater Chennai Corporation established a Special Shelter, with the funding support of HUDCO, for the benefit of women Caretakers and handed it over to INDIA NGO, Chennai. The shelter is functioning from 18.04.2017 onwards in the Children’s Hospital Complex of Stanley Hospital to support women caretakers of inpatients. Corporation supporting the NGO for the Staff cost, maintenance cost and cost of dinner provided to the inmates.

INDIA NGO, with the support of Hyundai Glovis India Private Limited, improvised the shelter with the following facilities.

• Safe drinking water through RO Plant both on the first floor and ground floor
• Uninterrupted power supply by the provision of Inverter & battery
• Improved Security through CCTV surveillance
• Napkin vending machine for ensuring availability of Napkins
• Electrically operated Incinerator for safe disposal of soiled napkins
• Breastfeeding cum Dress changing cabins on the ground floor and first floor
• Safety locker for keeping their belongings
• Fixing of mosquito nets in the windows for a Mosquito free environment
• Fixing of security gate with mosquito nets for the front veranda
• Television
• Mats, Pillows & Sheets

The caretakers are using the facility for taking rest during the day and for night stay. The shelter, having dormitory provisions for women, including toilet and bathing facilities. It has two floors and accommodates up to 50 persons. It also feeds the beneficiaries who stay at night.
